Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse admits he may have to consider looking into other options if he does not find a club this season.
The 36-year-old left Sundowns at the start of last season and has not received interesting offers and feels that age could be a reason for clubs not willing to sign him up.
However, the former Santos defender is not giving up just yet and hopes something will come up before the season ends, or he may consider bringing an end to what has been an impressive career filled with numerous trophies.
“Obviously if nothing comes up, you have to make a call with your career. So, if nothing comes up within this season, then I will probably look into other avenues,” Arendse said in an interview.
“I haven’t given up yet. I am still looking around and obviously I am still hopeful that something will pop up. I am still good for about two more seasons because I still feel good. Maybe teams are looking at the age factor and that’s what’s scaring them off. That the thing in SA. Once you go over 30 or over 35, they basically write you off. They don’t look at the other positives you can bring towards the team or in the changing room itself. Hopefully something does happen because I still have a craving for the game.”
Obviously, it would come as difficult for Arendse to find a new club given his age but the player is still ready to give it one last go. The veteran says he has about two more seasons of top football in him and wouldn’t mind playing for a PSL side as well.
