Attacker Khama Billiat has revealed how he can help solve the problems Kaizer Chiefs have faced in the season.
Chiefs find themselves 12th on the PSL standings after recording just a solitary win from their opening six league games, sparking an outrage from the club’s fans towards head coach Stuart Baxter.
Having being knocked out in the first round of the MTN8, a seventh consecutive trophyless season already looks likely based on the line of results that Chiefs have recorded thus far.
“It is not the way we wanted it to start,” acknowledges Billiat.
“We feel like we are working on things that need to stay with us and the only unfortunate part is that we haven’t been getting the results that we need but I personally feel good that we are able to keep the ball a bit longer. We are able to find each other on the pitch.
“We can move as a team. We just need to step up as strikers to give the team a little bit more, to score goals and make sure that we always put our team in a comfortable situation during the game.
“It is not easy to play while we are a goal down or goalless but if we can score then we give the team confidence to protect what we have. It is a work in progress and we are feeling good. We are soldiers so we will hang on and keep on digging and we will get it right,” says Billiat.
With the international break done now, attentions will turn to Saturday when they host Chippa United who is coached by Chiefs’ former coach Gavin Hunt as they hope to get their season back on track.
“We are back shifting the focus, and, on the weekend, it is going to be a big fight and we are just going to make sure that we stick to our game plan, and we believe in our game plan. We feel good and I feel good, and I think it is the time for us now to start to get those little things that make the difference in scoring more goals and defending our goal as a team and going forward.
“We just need to be on the top of our game. It is not going to be easy especially playing coach Gavin as he used to be here, and he knows players individually and has the experience.
“It is a great opportunity for us to play him now and put ourselves in a better situation than we are right now and start collecting maximum points. But then we need to work hard for it, and it is not going to be easy. It is going to be tough, and it will need us to want it more and make sure that we do what the coach wants,” says Billiat.
