Orlando Pirates returned to winning ways and end Stellenbosch’s unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership with a resounding 3-0 win on Wednesday evening.
Pirates made two changes to the side that drew with Golden Arrows, as Ben Motshwari made a long awaited return in place of the suspended Abel Mabaso and Terrence Dzvukamanja was recalled in place of Linda Mntambo.
The quite lively opening saw Collins Makgaka hand the visitors the lead in the 20th minute with a first-time finish at the near post after a header by Deon Hotto played him in.
And just two minutes later, Hotto made it two after robbing Robyn Johannes of possession by firing a fine low strike past hapless shot-stopper Sage Stephens.
The Buccaneers were at the top of their game, preventing the Stellies from playing their game with their high press, as Steve Barker’s men struggled to get behind the visitors’ defence with the pace of Du Preeze.
Just three minutes after the break, Pirates added another goal to put the game beyond the reach of the home side. Hotto grabbed his second of the evening after a through ball by Makgaka.
The visitors were comfortable and they could afford to bring on young striker Boitumelo Radiopane in the 68th minute in place of another young forward Ghanaian Kwame Peprah.
However, the Buccaneers found the back of the net in the final quarter of the game through Olisa Ndah but the goal was wrongly disallowed by the referee.
In the end, Pirates were already out of sight, as they ended the hosts’ unbeaten run with yet another clean sheet.
