Moroka Swallows have been on the South African football scene since the 1940s. Originally named Congregated Rovers (named after the business where most of the players worked) and Moroka Rovers, they officially renamed themselves Moroka Swallows in 1947.
‘Moroka’ means ‘rain maker’ in Setswana and their name comes from the township named after Chief Moroka.
Swallows have been a consistent feature on the local scene, playing an attractive brand of football that has drawn a passionate fan base.
Moroka Swallows are one of two original Soweto clubs along with Orlando Pirates.
