Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi believes more is set to come from striker Pavol Safranko after the player’s vintage performance in the win over Marumo Gallants.
The Slovakian grabbed his third goal of the season for the defending DStv Premiership champions as the the league leaders won in style.
The signing of the forward was one that brought major doubt, with many questioning what exactly he was going to bring to the Downs side.
Alongside Peter Shalulile, the Slovakian has been one of the stand-out performers for the reigning champions. He has enjoyed a decent start to his Sundowns career and it appears there is more to come from the 26-year-old, says the club’s boss.
“We believe he’s got goals in him. He’s still going to help us. He is gaining confidence. In the first half he created a very good moment for Neo Maema and that could have easily been a good assist, but unfortunately Neo could not take that one (because) it hit the upright,” Mngqithi told the Sundowns media department after the game.
“We are very happy with the progress he is making in the team. For a player like him, it’s not only about scoring. It’s about the work ethic he puts in to make sure that he helps us in our defensive strategies and defensive schemes. He is very important in that space. We know that on set pieces he is a big factor – both offensively and defensively. We think he is really getting into full fitness and, in no time, we will start reaping the rewards from that.”
