Ex-Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite has decided to back Stuart Baxter on his return to the club.
Mashamaite and Baxter enjoyed good times during the Englishman’s first stint with the club between 2012 and 2015, winning two league titles and two cups.
While the return of Baxter has sparked different opinions across fans and neutrals alike, Tefu is hopeful of another positive stint with the Englishman in charge.
“Look, I mean he was the last one to win silverware, so why not bring him back? I’m sure the reason that Chiefs group won silverware is because there was a certain structure that made sure the results were delivered at the end of the day,” the retired defender said in an interview.
“He was a man in charge. I know he’s a student of football, so I’m sure he will be bringing new ideas, like reconstructing what was lost when he left. “
“So, I wish all the best for him. Chiefs are in the semi-final of the [CAF] Champions League, so it would be nice if they win it and take it from that momentum going forward. The whole of South Africa has to rally behind them [against Wydad Athletic Club].”
The former Bafana Bafana centre-back, who recently launched his own company The Collective Sports Agency, also says he wants to use his experience as a footballer to assist sportsmen and women across board.
“Obviously, post my playing days I had to start thinking about what I get into. I’ve got so much experience to offer so, I’ve decided that running a sports management agency would be something that will challenge me,” he added.
“I have partners but they prefer to play a more behind-the-scenes role. These types of things you can’t just go into them alone, but I’m running the initiatives, I’m the face of it – I’m the director. “
“We are based in Pietermaritzburg, which is where we have our physical offices, but you know with Covid-19, you can do a virtual running of businesses. “
“I’m mostly operating from Limpopo. As times goes, we will be able to reveal the players who are in our stable.”
