GladAfrica Championship: Wrap up from the latest action

The GladAfrica championship rolled on this weekend and brought with it a shocking result as the league leaders Richards Bay FC, were beaten by Uthongathi FC 2-1. Elsewhere, TS Sporting and Free State Stars got comfortable wins and took advantage of the slip up from the leaders.

Sekhukhune United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Jomo Cosmos on their home turf. The result meant they were not able to move to the top of the standings.

The Cane Cutters handed Natal Rich Boyz their second loss in as many games and continued their climb up the table and away from the relegation places with goals scored by Sanele Shabane and Francis Baloyi.

University of Pretoria’s play-off hopes took a huge hit after a heavy 3-0 loss away to TS Sporting. It was a win for the hosts which means they are second behind Richards Bay by a solitary point.

Ea Lla Koto earned their second win on the bounce on Saturday after easily dispatching JDR Stars and moved above the Hammer Boys on goal difference and only two points from top spot. Goals from Sicelokuhle Hlatshwayo, Kamogelo Sambo and Monnapule Saleng made the difference for Alan Freese’s men.

Jomo Cosmos beat 10-man Sekhukhune United 1-0 with Seun Ledwaba scoring the only goal of the game.  Babina Noko captain Yusuf Maart was sent off during the match after being shown two yellow cards.

Royal AM missed the chance to top the League as they played out a 1-1 stalemate against Cape United, with goals coming from Roscoe Peterson once again from the penalty spot and another from Mfundo Thikazi.

In a crucial match at the bottom end of the table, last-placed Bizana Pondo Chiefs claimed an all-important 2-1 comeback victory at home against Cape Town Spurs to give themselves a survival lifeline.

Abednigo Mosiatlhaga had struck first for the Urban Warriors but We Hunt To Kill stayed focus and turned it around to get the victory with Musa Bilankulu scoring from the penalty spot and Aluncedo Mazwi completing the comeback in a well-deserved victory.

Another relegation six-pointer between Polokwane City and Cape Town All Stars ended in a 1-1 draw with both teams not out of the relegation fight just yet.

It brought an exciting end to the latest round of fixtures from the weekend.
