The GladAfrica Championship title race as well as the promotion race would be decided next weekend when its final day takes centre stage.
In the penultimate match day, Royal AM and Sekhukhune United secured valuable wins over University of Pretoria and Polokwane City respectively, while Richards Bay FC fell short as they played out a frustrating 1-1 draw with Jomo Cosmos.
Furthermore, the battle for who is to be relegated has also not been concluded yet after Steenberg United nicked a valuable point against JDR Stars while Free State Stars thumped Cape Town Spurs 3-1 to make the final day an exciting one to hope for.
Royal have garnered 50 points so far this season and would require just a point in their last game to clinch automatic promotion following their comeback 2-1 win over the weekend.
AmaTuks’ Oswin Appollis gave the underdogs a shock lead when he converted from close range but Tshepo Liphoko and Zukile Mkhize turned the game on its head to lead their side to victory.
Babina Noko easily outshone Rise and Shine 2-0, thanks to Katlego Cwinyane’s brace, which helped his team increase their point tally to 47.
A second half strike by veteran, Siyabonga Vilane, saw the Natal Rich Boyz take the lead over Ezenkosi before Sanele Gumede equalized.
With the 1-0 win by TS Sporting over Uthongathi FC, Richards Bay sit outside the play-off spots on goal difference after they also played out nail-biting 1-1 draw.
In the weekend’s other games, Pretoria Callies edged Bizana Pondo Chiefs 4-2, while Cape Town All Stars beat Cape United 1-0 to preserve their status in the second tier.
However, the Urban Warriors and Steenberg go into the final day to fight for safety when they take on AmaTuks and the Natal Rich Boys respectively.
An exciting final day is upon us this coming weekend as the GladAfrica Championship finally draws to a close. It has been an exciting season thus far and clearly lived up to all of the hype. As always, we’ll be here to report the latest updates from now until the season is concluded in proper.
