Long-serving Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana had paid an emotional tribute to the club after agreeing to part ways after a decade of service.
Kekana – the most decorated player in the PSL – won all but one of available trophy in South African football.
The veteran midfielder failed to lift the elusive MTN8 trophy, with Kabo Yellow finally ending their 14-year jinx after beating Cape Town City in this year’s final in Durban.
“Firstly, let me thank everybody for the time spent here at Chloorkop, our memories will always be in my heart,” an emotional Kekana said.
“Let me thank my teammates, the coaches that I worked with from the beginning of my career at Mamelodi Sundowns.
“I can’t forget the ladies in the kitchen, everybody in the office, the board, the Motsepe family, the president, the chairman, Mr Singh, Mr Stan, everybody, Mr Gold Finger, I can’t forget Mr Gold Finger.
“The most important thing is to thank you guys for everything that we have done together.
“The trophies are the most important thing, firstly let me congratulate you guys for winning the MTN8 trophy.
“If that medal were a ring, please bring it to me, I need to get married soon.
“But if it’s not a ring, I will be single forever. I want to thank you guys for winning the trophy because during my 10 years at Sundowns, I’ve been trying to fish the trophy and I didn’t get it.
“I don’t know where you got the luck from, the coaches, maybe tell me because I need it in my cabinet.
“That’s the only trophy I am missing and I am even ready to trade one of my medals for that medal because it’s important to me.
“I have a son who is always telling me about the MTN8 trophy, now I have to understand the feeling.
“I didn’t have the feeling. You coach Manqoba Mngqithi, you have won it twice, you can tell me the feeling,” Kekana added.
