AmaZulu FC captain Makhehlene Makhaula has explained the reason behind their torrid start to the new campaign.
It has been a slow start for Usuthu to the 2021/22 campaign, after accumulating just one win from their opening six DStv Premiership encounters.
The club’s captain Makhaula says the opponents may have studied and understood their game plan after an impressive 2020/21 season and feels luck hasn’t been on their side so far.
“For me I think we haven’t had last season’s luck, also other teams have mastered our game plan and each player on how we play, it’s same thing that happened to Maritzburg United after a good season they couldn’t outdo themselves the following,” Makhaula told the media.
“It’s very difficult this season and games are coming thick and fast.”
With his impressive performances which saw him winning last season’s player of the season in the club’s awards, Makhaula was rewarded with responsibility to lead the team.
“I’m happy to be a team captain and it comes with challenges. Whenever I’m alone I question why things are not going well when I’m now team captain but would comfort myself with before light there’s darkness,” – he added.
“I’m not a talking captain but I lead by example, I fight on the field and the team can see from there on how we can do things, which is why I think coach Benni McCarthy gave me the armband because I do talking through hard work on the field.”
AmaZulu have only won once in the PSL this season, drawing four times and losing once. McCarthy and company will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on TS Galaxy for their next outing.
