Rakhale explains decision to leave Marumo Gallants

Thabo Rakhale has explained his decision to leave Marumo Gallants FC for newly promoted Sekhukhune United FC.

Rakhale was one of five players unveiled by Sekhukhune in the past week ahead of their debut DStv Premiership season.

The 31-year-old has now opened up on the reason as to why he accepted Sekhukhune’s offer, stating he wanted a return back to Gauteng.

“Honestly I’m happy you know grootman for the fact that I’m now closer to home,” Rakhale said.

“Kudala ngizula Joe (I’ve been away for a while now). My contract ended last month, but then Sekhukhune had already shown an interest. I then decided to make this move. You know these contract renewal things can give you a hard time sometimes.

“It’s not like I left on a bad note over there, it’s just that we also couldn’t agree when it came to being remunerated you see. My contract with them didn’t have an option.

“I also wanted to stay there, and I also told the management that I want to stay. But then you know football is football.”

As thing stand, Sekhukhune are the champions of the 2020/21 GladAfrica Championship season and as a result, they will be playing top-flight football soon.

When he was asked what gave him the courage to leave a top-flight club for the new boys, whose future is still undecided, he added,

“I’ll be lying if I can say how the verdict will go you see, but then I just told myself ‘Let me just take the risk of joining this team,’ considering the fact that last season I received lot of offers.

“As I’ve mentioned that football people can easily turn against you, I had offers but the following day you find the very same person telling you something different. So now when Sekhukhune came I said ‘Okay here’s a team that’s new in PSL so let me take my risk and go there.” “I’m still young I’m still going to continue (laughs). I don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on myself, but I’m going to play my normal game like I did at TTM, hence I ended up playing a lot of games.”
