Kaizer Chiefs talisman Keagan Dolly has disclosed what is required of Kaizer Chiefs if they are to have the edge against Mamelodi Sundowns and start competing for titles again.
The Soweto giants last won a trophy in 2015 when they won the then Absa Premiership under current coach Stuart Baxter. While at Sundowns, they have won virtually everything during the period.
Having contributed massively to Sundowns’ success in the past, Dolly knows all about the requirements of winning and has revealed what Amakhosi need to do in order for them to start winning again.
“Look, Sundowns didn’t just become Sundowns overnight, they worked on it, and I think that’s what we are trying to do at Chiefs now,” he told the media at a press conference ahead of the Soweto Derby.
“We have a few good, exciting players and we are trying to get the perfect combinations and you can see sometimes during the game the coach will play this player instead of that player and it’s a journey. It’s a work in progress and I think once we do get it right, we will start competing for silverware and we’ll start having ambitions to play in Africa and I think that will come once we start getting the identity we want as a team, and we are working on it,” he explained.
Chiefs came close to ending their drought last season when they reached the final of the CAF Champions League but they lost to Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly in Morocco.
