Stuart Baxter is over the moon with his wards’ performance against Chippa United on Saturday. The Amakhosi were imperious form as they handed the Chili Boys a 4-0 thrashing. The gaffer waxed lyrical as he praised his team’s performance.
The Amakhosi frontline comprising of Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat ran riot with Dolly getting a brace, while Billiat and Lazarous Kambole scored one each.
The result brought smiles to Baxter’s face, and he was excited by how his boys attacked Chilli. Following the disappointment of the past few weeks, Baxter is well within his rights to be excited.
Baxter told SuperSport after the victory that he thought his team played well. According to him, the game was perhaps closer than the scoreline suggested. For the second half, He said they chose to play deeper to prevent the opponent from scoring.
“We invited a few crosses. When you take your chances and don’t miss, and when you prevent your opponent instead of giving the opponent those moments. I was speaking out before the game,” Baxter said.
Baxter was satisfied with how the boys played, especially Dolly, who has been working at scoring lately. He also pointed out that this kind of result can happen when there is a mental shift. According to him, a mental shift brings about a momentum shift.
Baxter described their movement around the box in the tie as excellent. He claimed it is something they worked on in the summer, and he feels it gave Chippa so many problems. He praised the speed and mobility of his wards and thought that if they’d done it more, they would have scored a few more goals.
It was a satisfying evening for Baxter, who was excited at Dolly, Billiat and Kambole, who all got on the scoresheet.
He finished by saying it was good for their confidence and that it could only get better.
“We shouldn’t concentrate on everything that is said or speculated. And that’s what the boys did, and they did it very well, and I’m very pleased in that respect.”
