Bafana Bafana have somehow found a way to be distracted from focusing on the job at hand. The team should not lose focus from qualifying for the FIFA World Cup.
Following the recent comments by the team manager Hugo Broos, a former international has refused to let sleeping dogs lie. Bennett Mnguni, who once donned the shirt of Bafana Bafana, has taken it upon himself to respond to the recent comments made by Broos about clubs in the PSL and its players.
Broos came down hard on PSL teams and their players, insinuating a gang-up is against him. He believes there is a plan designed to see him fail at his job.
Broos said a meeting with club coaches failed while he was not allowed to attend the league tie between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. The Belgian manager also touched on the issue of Pule Mmodi and Luther Singh’s passports. Broos was also less than impressed with the perceived absconding of Goodman Mosele and Thabiso Kutumela’s Covid vaccination.
Mnguni is not in agreement with Broos and decried the preferential treatment meted to international coaches. According to him, international managers are seen as saints, and recent issues, should have been settled differently.
Mnguni said that people rarely get to hear the player’s story when these issues come up. He refrained from calling Broos a liar but insisted that an international coach would always shield himself from blame. In a recent interview, Mnguni opined that no serious player wants to miss out on competing internationally.
“Sometimes I feel like before making comments about clubs or players through the media, be sure what you are talking about.”
Bafana beat Ethiopia 3-1 to stay top of the table ahead of Ghana, who defeated Zimbabwe by the same scoreline. Mnguni is optimistic that if the current squad can keep their hunger and desire, they’ll qualify.
