DStv Premiership club Black Leopards and goalkeeper King Ndlovu have mutually agreed to a contract termination.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper has requested for his contract to be terminated immediately, which the club has accepted to do so.
The Leopards suspended the goalkeeper after he stood up for his teammates Lifa Hlongwane, Tebogo Makobela and Onyedikachi Ononogbu, who were frozen out for playing without permission in the Thabiso Semenya Easter Tournament.
“I have terminated my contract. I have left. I have [clearance] papers that allow me to join a team of my choice,” Ndlovu said in an interview.
“I just have to live up to the agreement of the whole thing. Obviously, I can’t give out the details, but we just agreed on a mutual termination.
“I’ll wait for a couple of months and after that I will look for a job. But, to sign me, teams don’t have to wait because I have terminated, so I’m a free agent now.
“I had lot of up and downs [at Leopards], but we learned a lot of lessons. I feel like I’ve done my part at Leopards, I feel like I have to move on and find new challenges.”
This is the second time the former Jomo Cosmos goalkeeper will be parting ways with Lidoda Duvha, having left briefly after failing to see head coach Luc Eymael in January last year.
Given that Black Leopards are likely to get the drop this season, there is a strong possibility of more players seeking to leave and looking for another challenge elsewhere as well. It won’t come as a surprise if other PSL sides make moves for some of their players as well.
At this stage, it would take a tremendous effort to stay in the Premiership and that is with the hopes that other results go their way as well.
Since joining Lidoda Duvha in 2018, Ndlovu has made 51 total appearances for the club. In that time, he conceded 73 goals, while keeping 11 clean sheets.
For their next outing in the league, Black Leopards will take on SuperSport United on Saturday.
