CAF Champions League: Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns could face-off in exciting quarter-final clash

Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs have sealed booked their spots in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Both sides will anxiously wait for their next opponents in the continental competition as they aim to go all the way for a prestigious title.

As it stands, there is a possibility that Chiefs and Sundowns could clash and continue their rivalry, but on the continental scene.

The Brazilians claimed leadership of their group, as they achieved the impressive feat of securing qualification with two games to spare. Elsewhere, Amakhosi had to come from behind twice in their thrilling 2-2 draw against Horoya on Saturday. This will make for the first time Chiefs will go this far in the CAF Champions League.

The format for the last eight has not been altered since it was rebranded years ago, with the introduction of four groups to replace the usual two. The competition was more or less increased from eight to 16 teams to partake in the group stages since 2017.

Still with the same layout, the quarter-final draw is expected to take place on the 30th of April, when the remaining eight teams will know their fate.

The following teams have qualified for the quarterfinals

Sundowns

Chiefs

Simba (Tanzania)

Al Ahly (Egypt)

Wydad Casablanca (Morocco)

Esperance (Tunisia)

CR Belouizdad (Algeria)

MC Alger (Algeria)
