There is a concern in the camp of Chippa United, and the most worried is the boss, Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi, who declared his frustration at the poor start to the PSL season. The United boss did not shy away from commenting on the head coach Gavin Hunt.
The Chilli Boys are in a less than desired state, and after six games, they languish in 13th on the log, managing just a win. From a possible tally of 18 points, the Chili boys have just five. A very disappointing haul for a team with lofty ambitions.
Chippa travels to the FNB Stadium on Saturday to take on Hunt’s former side Kaizer Chiefs. Chippa cannot afford another loss as morale is already dropping in the team.
Mpengesi has expressed his concerns over the team performance in recent weeks and penned a letter to the team via the club’s media department. In the letter, he commented on the team’s poor start to the season but declared his full support for Hunt.
Portions of the letter suggested that the current situation is not a pretty sight and that those worried are justified in their worry.
He said, being with the team since pre-season, he is not as worried as the others. So much work has gone into the team. He said his spirit is lifted by everyone putting in a shift.
He remains confident that very soon, the team’s fortunes will change and that the results they desire will start to roll in.
He also said he was encouraged by their last match against SuperSport United. According to Mpengesi, though the game ended goalless, he picked a lot of positives. He also referred to his last letter, where he reiterated his satisfaction with what Hunt and his technical team were doing.
He maintained that he stands by his commitment to the coach and the team saying, patience is an important ingredient in sport.
On a final note, Mpengesi said there were no half measures or quick fixes and that they were in it for the long haul.
