Sundowns’ Success

Downs Coach makes Maluleka admission

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has passed a comment on the progress of midfielder George Maluleka.

The former Kaizer Chiefs star is yet to feature for the defending champions, but could be handed an opportunity to play for the side soon as Mngqithi revealed that the midfielder has done well in training.

With the obvious competition at Sundowns, it has not been easy for the 32-year-old to break into the team.

Speaking ahead of his side’s MTN8 second leg semi-final against Golden Arrows, Mngqithi made mention of Maluleka as one of the players they might give a chance in the tie, having looked at his commitment in training.

“We have players who are outside that never played. George is one player that has done exceptionally well. If you can see him now, he has lost so much weight. He looks very sharp and we are eager to give him an opportunity at some point. We must try see what we can do, without tampering with the winning combination,” Mngqithi told media in a press conference after his side registered a 2-0 victory over Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates.

Sundowns have now started the season on a strong note as they look to possibly defend their crown and win the PSL title for a fifth time in a row. As it stands, odds are well in their favour to achieve that and there is a general consensus they have all it takes to go all the way.

It will become something of a ‘norm’ at this stage if they go on to win the PSL but we’ll have to wait and see if that happens in the first place.

For their next outing, Sundowns take on Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday, after the first leg semi-final finished 1-1.
