Dylan Kerr was no doubt a happy man after his side claimed a shock win over Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday in the DStv Premiership. However, he has expressed his sympathy for Gavin Hunt, who has recently come under intense criticism and is even at risk of facing the sack at Amakhosi.
It was a win that saw different realities for both sides. The 2-1 win over Chiefs saw TTM gain a precious three points that could be crucial in their bid to escape relegation. To go with, the victory also meant Kerr was finally victorious over Hunt for the first time since he joined South African football.
Reflecting on the win, the English manager was more than delighted with his side’s mentality against Chiefs. He also made sure to comment on Hunt’s current struggles with the Amakhosi.
“I’m very, very pleased, very happy for the players, very happy for my technical team and I’m also happy for the Chairman and everybody involved. Against Kaizer Chiefs it’s a very tough game even though they had 10-men, I know Gavin very well, they went for 3-4-2, which is what he does, and they tried,” Kerr told his club’s media department.
“Personally, it’s my first win against Gavin Hunt, I feel for him, he’s got a very, very tough job. He’s got lots of games, he’s got CAF, which I think it’s much more important now than trying to get into the top eight. I believe that they’ll beat Simba – but he’s got a tough call. I believe that one player is suspended now, he’s goalkeeper’s been injured so he’s got a very, very tough call. But credit to my players, they showed very good character,” he added.
The latest result means Chiefs now have one of the worst records as it stands in the DStv Premiership. In their last 15 games in the league, they can only boast of two wins. Ironically, one of those wins saw them end the unbeaten run of league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, Chiefs now face a frantic battle to finish in the top eight as they are only five points ahead of deeply rooted relegation-threatened Chippa United in 15th place. Amakhosi have a rather ‘tough’ fixture list for their remaining fixtures and it would be particularly eye-catching to see how this campaign ends for them and what becomes of Hunt at the club as well.
