Enyimba FC captain Austin Oladapo has insisted his side are out to get the maximum three points ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup against Orlando Pirates in Soweto on Wednesday.
Enyimba kicked off the CAF Confederation Cup with a 2-1 win against Libyan side Ahly Benghazi to top Group A.
The People’s Elephant captain appeared before the media on Monday ahead of the game and said they are set to give their continental title challenge a real push.
Oladapo, who scored in the opening game against Ahly Benghazi, detailed his side’s ambitions and mental approach as they prepare to take on the South Afican outfit.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the club’s website, he said: “The game will be a very big battle, because whosoever wins will sit top of the group, I don’t want to disrespect them, I have watched most of their games and there are a very good side and we are a good side as well. “
“We know the purpose of our trip to South Africa, we are not going for a tour but we are going for a win which will keep us top of the group.”
Austin Oladapo has been in impressive form so far this season scoring three goals in all competitions for Enyimba. Interestingly, two of them have been on the continent.
This particular match-day two fixture promises to be an exciting one, especially because it will see two continental giants (Nigeria and South Africa), take on each other. Nigeria have been more successful at national team football in recent years but South Africa have slightly done better on the continent.
However, a win for Enyimba FC in Soweto will put them in a good position as they could be well at the top of the table with six points in Group A.
For Orlando Pirates, the plan will be to stifle their Nigerian opponents and hope not to concede first. Enyimba are well known to be fast starters and an early-goal for them could be the motivation to dominate proceedings in the game.
Moving further, both sides come into this fixture with almost identical form. Infact, the two teams are unbeaten in their last six games across all competitions. With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see how the game plays out.
Bragging rights, three points and the quest for continental success are on the cards when two heavyweights meet on Wednesday.
