FIFA Review after loss to Ghana? SAFA Gives Latest Update

SAFA have moved a step further in seeking to successfully have Bafana Bafana’s 1-0 defeat to Ghana on Sunday replayed.

Spokesperson Dominic Chimhavi spoke in an interview and has confirmed that the federation has officially made a formal submission to both FIFA and CAF as required by the rulebook and paid the requisite fee.

SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe had earlier on Monday told the media that South Africa were “robbed” and that the letter to the two football organizations would be sent with enough evidence to back it up that there was suspicion to believe the match was fixed.

Ghana won the game as a result of a controversial penalty being awarded by Senegalese referee Maguette N’Diaye, with the final score line enough to help The Black Stars finish top of Group G and progress to the play-offs for the World Cup qualifiers.

“We have followed the process and submitted a complaint because we don’t want to be seen just making noise without following the handbook,” Chimhavi said in a recent interview.

Ace Ngcobo will also be part of a panel of experts to help SAFA prove beyond reasonable doubt that the officiating on the night in question benefitted Ghana and put coach Hugo Broos’ side at a disadvantage with several isolated incidents.

“It is not just Mr Ngcobo, we have a few qualified people assisting to compile evidence,” said Chimhavi when asked to confirm whether the former Premier Soccer League referee turned general manager will lead the group.
