Former Chiefs man ecstatic about KZN football revival

Former Kaizer Chiefs man Ntkozo Shakhane has revealed his delight at KZN clubs firing on all cylinders and has backed them to achieve their goals this season.

Shakhane has been especially impressed by the Lamantoville Golden Arrows, who are currently second in the DStv table with a solid chance to qualify to the CAF for the first time in history.

And while they have yet to navigate challenges from trailing-teams Supersport United, Orlando Pirates, and AmaZulu, Skhakhane is firmly on the opinion that the team is equipped to pull the rabbit out of the hat.

“Yes, I believe Golden Arrows are good enough to compete at CAF.”  he said.

“Football is the same, it’s either you play in Spain or Zimbabwe, it’s the same. It’s all about the mental strength of each player in dealing with pressure against bigger teams.

“As long as you perform well and work hard you are guaranteed success, so I believe this Arrows side led by coach Mandla and Madhudi can make us proud as a province.”

Golden Arrows currently brag the most productive forward line in the league with 30 goals. Among their most memorable wins so far have been triumphs over direct challengers Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu and Supersport United.

“It’s a good feeling for the province,” Skhakhane continued, “This has revived football spirit as we haven’t had this feeling before where almost all KZN teams are doing well.

“Richards Bay are also doing well in the GladAfrican Championship, which means we might have teams in the top division next season as I believe Maritzburg United will survive relegation.”
