The FIFA international break is back, and teams get set to square off for places in the FIFA 2022 World Cup taking place in Qatar.
All seems not well in the South African camp as the Bafana Bafana coach is fuming at the moment. The Bafana coach Hugo Broos is disappointed at the no show by one of his players. The coach hit out at Goodman Mosele after he failed to report to camp for their forthcoming match.
The Orlando Pirates player was in Broos’ plans for the Ethiopia tie. He said the player’s failure to report to camp for the game messed up his plans, and he was disappointed that he gave no reason for his absence.
The coach has moved ahead with plans to ensure that Bafana Bafana picks up all three points against the Ethiopians. He has replaced the 21-year-old with Jesse Donn, who plays for SuperSport United.
The Belgian manager could, however, not hide his fury at Mosele’s absence.
“I am not disappointed, I am very angry,” Broos said on Monday evening. “I don’t understand how a player who [is in line to win] his first cap for the national team of his country doesn’t even come to the camp.
“He didn’t call us. We don’t know why he’s not coming. I can understand that. Maybe the player doesn’t want to play for Bafana Bafana, but he should tell me that.
It is still unclear whether Mosele intentionally refused to honor the national team invitation, but Hugo Broos said he respects his decision highlighting the freedom to decide whether to play or not. He, however, decried the player being incommunicado, and that is what angers him.
Mosele allegedly withdrew from the squad days before Bafana Bafana takes on Ethiopia in a World Cup qualifiers doubleheader. The first match takes place on Saturday, 9 October in Ethiopia, while the return leg comes up three days later in South Africa.
