Gavin Hunt heaps praise on ‘man of the match’ Blom after display against Orlando Pirates

Kazier Chiefs boss Gavin Hunt was full of praise for youngster Njabulo Blom after the midfielder excelled in the derby victory over Orlando Pirates on Sunday.

The Amakhosi tasted victory once again in the DStv Premiership following a 1-0 win over their fierce rivals. On his return from injury, Samir Nurkovic stole the headlines with a stunning effort that went on to be the difference after 90 minutes.

Hunt was pleased with his side’s display on the day, and singled out Blom for his impressive showing in their victory.

“Njabulo Blom was Man of the Match, fantastic you know. He’s got energy, he’s got legs, it’s what we need, he’s got desire, we just gotta get him better, but he’ll get better. As I said, ‘Mshini’ [Nkosingiphile Ngcobo], Happy [Mashiane] I mean the ball he played through for Nurkovic, what a ball, fantastic,” he said after the game.

“He’ll get better, you need time with him, you also need players around them that can make them better. As long as they got the work ethic, Njabulo has got that, Darrel, these youngsters got it. I just got to keep preservering, I believe in them, hopefully we can get them better and better, you know that’s all I can do.”

Hunt also went on to discuss how the lack of fans has affected Chiefs so far this season.

“Obviously the club of this size, Pirates and Chiefs need people [fans], they’ve thrived on that all the years, I’ve always played against it and felt they’ve always had the 12th, 13th man.

“And that’s certainly maybe what happened last season at the end of the season, they never had that, I felt sorry for them because it could’ve certainly got them over the line you know.

“So you need that, we haven’t had it, it’s been a couple of results this season that you know I thought we could’ve, just a little bit of edge we could have done better but it is what it is. It’s the same all over the world, you look at the top sides they are struggling as well.

“But all in all I’m happy for the players, that’s the most important thing and hopefully it gives us a bit of a kick” he added.

Chiefs will be hoping to build on their latest win as they turn their attentions next to the CAF Champions League when they take on Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca in a fortnight.
