Former Kaizer Chiefs player Ntokozo Sikhakhane believes the GladAfrica Championship promotion has to be decided on the pitch.
The GAC had big case on their hands which has seen Sekhukhune United being awarded three points after they won their petition against Polokwane City, who were found guilty by the Disciplinary panel for failing to field the correct number of U-23 players.
Sikhakhane, who also played for and AmaZulu FC, believes there’s should be no complaints over the ruling because it is clearly stated in the rule books.
“There are no issues, if Sekhukhune get promotion, it would be fair, they deserve it. They didn’t do anything. If they won the case, give them three points… simple as that,” Sikhakhane said in an interview.
“Teams must work for play-offs, no one must get favors. If they get promotion, I will be happy for them, they managed to assemble a good team with the likes of Jabulani Maluleka, Morgan Gould, Prince Nxumalo and other experienced players. You can see their intentions from the get-go.
“That’s how you build a team, they had Alex Bapela and they were bound to be a success. We need teams that are serious about football, so if they get it, I won’t be surprised.”
Meanwhile, the judgment has changed the context of the standings as Richards Bay now find themselves in fourth position with a small chance of reaching the promotion play-offs, Koloba says they should blame themselves.
“KZN teams have no-one to blame other than themselves. They had 30 games like everyone, it is all about winning, not favours. Richards Bay were on top of the log for too long and what did they do? So you can’t blame anyone, even Royal AM have a fair opportunity.
“If on Sunday, they fail to get automatic promotion, they must focus on the play-offs like other teams and good luck to them.
“The PSL DC timing had nothing to do with this. Many can argue, but the reality is that the case has been resolved. Talking about timing doesn’t matter. We need a well-run league that follows rules and I think that has been done,” he added.
