GladAfrica Championship round up: Richards Bay, Cape Town Spurs record important wins

As the GladAfrica Championship continues to take shape, we bring you the latest roundup from Wednesday’s action in the 2020/21 season.

Richards Bay FC and Cape Town Spurs recorded important wins in Wednesday’s 2020-21 GladAfrica Championship action. Although, both sides sit at different ends of the table but the wins were important to their respective season’s objectives.

Just four games were played this midweek and winners emerged from all of those games as the race for promotion and survival heats up in the second tier.

The Natal Rich Boyz snapped a two-game losing streak with a narrow 1-0 win over rivals and title challengers Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium.

The lone strike from Simphiwe Mcineka was all they needed to edge the derby match and that win moved the club four points clear at the top of the log.

In the battle of the Cape Town clubs, it was Spurs who emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win over Cape Town All Stars at the Paris Park. Junior Sibande was the hero of the day as he nodded home the only goal of the match to push his side out of the relegation waters and up to 13th spot.

Elsewhere, Nedbank Cup semifinalists Pretoria Callies beat Free State Stars 1-0 while Polokwane City also beat bottom-placed Bizana Pondo Chiefs to move Sox points clear of the relegation zone.

The next round of action will take place this weekend, with games expected to go on through the 24th and 25th of April. Richards Bay continue to take centre stage and would be hoping to maintain their lead at the top of the pile.
