Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt felt his side’s performance against Cape Town City should have earned them a draw.
Chiefs suffered their seventh loss of the campaign as goals from Tashreeq Morris and Bradley Ralani saw Cape Town City pick up a 2-1 win at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.
It marked another game where Amakhosi put up a ‘decent’ performance but failure to take their chances cost them once again. Simply put, Chiefs’ boss Hunt was not pleased with the final outcome of the game.
“Disappointed with the result,” Hunt said in an interview after the game.
“Thought we deserved a draw. It didn’t come but you know we are on the backfoot in the first half. Disappointing.
“We’ve led games this year and we’ve thrown it away. We should have got a point here tonight, that’s for sure. The final ball let us down.
“They also had chances but all in all we looked a bit heavy-legged. So, it wasn’t good.”
The former Bidvest Wits boss also urged his players to regroup and give a better showing against league leaders Sundowns on Sunday.
“Every game is important. From the start. So it’s no different. We’ve got to regroup now and go again on Sunday. Lots of work.”
Chiefs remain outside the top eight by two points after the loss to the Citizens and will face Mamelodi Sundowns in their next league outing. It would be the ultimate task to achieve the feat of taking three points against an unbeaten Sundowns side in the league this season. Not to mention that the fixture is at the leader’s home ground. A win for Hunt’s charges is not impossible but the chances are rather slim based on current form and recent performances.
Asides dropping points, another loss for Chiefs sees them continue their poor form of late. Amakhosi are now without a win in their last four outings in all competitions. Their last win dates all the way back to a 1-0 win over Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League on the 3rd of April.
The aim for Hunt and company remains to finish as high up the table as possible, specifically in the top eight. It means they must find a way to start recording positive results as soon as possible.
