It was another round of captivating fixtures in the GladAfrica Championship over the weekend. As usual, we bring you a round-up of all the action from the latest game-week.
Royal AM captured second spot in the GladAfrica Championship with a resounding 3-1 victory over Uthongathi FC, while the likes of TS Sporting and Jomo Cosmos surprisingly lost 1-0 to their lowly opponents – Cape Town All Stars and Steenberg United respectively.
Richards Bay FC and Sekhukhune United played out an entertaining 2-2. A draw for the league leaders means their lead at the top has now been reduced to just two points. They will be eager to claim a win when they take on the University of Pretoria next Sunday.
Elsewhere, Dillon Solomons was Igugu Lekapa’s hero on the day, as Abantu Bemthetho suffered yet another crushing defeat in the Mother City. However, owing to their excellent goal difference record, Kabelo Sibiya’s team sits above Free State Stars, who surprisingly drew 1-1 with bottom-placed Bizana Pondo Chiefs.
JDR Stars reached the 37 point mark after a nail-biting goalless draw against Polokwane City at the Giant Stadium. Ezenkosi’s eighth defeat of the season further reduced their chances of a top three finish and are stuck on 27 points after falling to Edmore Chirambadare’s scintillating finish.
The Natal Rich Boyz opened the scoring in the 41st minute when Somila Ntsundwana netted from close range. But Babina Noko fought back heroically to lead 2-1, thanks to Sello Motsepe and Prince Nxumalo before Austin Dube’s dramatic equaliser.
Cape United, inspired by a first-half brace from Eyona Ndondo, took the bragging rights against Cape Town Spurs in Parow.
The other game between University of Pretoria and Pretoria Callies finished goalless, which also means both clubs are on their way to beating the drop.
