Match-winner Njabulo Blom reveals how Sundowns win will help Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs’ Njabulo Blom, after the man-of-the-match winning performance against Sundowns, says the win over the league leaders will give Chiefs a lot of confidence going forward as they seek to end the season in a respectable position.

The ever-present Blom in midfield for Amakhosi this season gave the assist for Dumisani Zuma’s winner in the comeback win at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.

The 21-year-old promising talent said coach Gavin Hunt’s pep-talk at half-time centered around them doing the basics in the second half after going 1-0 down at half-time.

“In the first half we didn’t play our best,” Blom said in an interview after the game.

“When we went to the change room, the coach just told us to keep it calm and we’ll get the goals when we apply our basics correctly. Improving on keeping our positions and good passing and movement on the ball and off the ball.”

The CAF Champions League quarterfinalists lost 2-1 to Cape Town City on Wednesday and Blom said the win over Masandawana automatically boosts their confidence

“Ja, I think going forward it will give us confidence. It automatically boosts our confidence.”

The win is only the second win in 11 league games for Kaizer Chiefs but surely this victory more than anything gives them a lot of confidence just as Blom said. Even better that they halted the run and broke the potential chance at setting a record for Sundowns.

With the win, Chiefs are now up to eighth place, with 28 points. However, they must now maintain some form of consistency as the likes of Baroka, Bloemfontein Celtic, TS Galaxy and Stellenbosch are only three points behind Amakhosi. Meaning any slip up at this stage will be duly punished in terms of positions on the league table.

With about six games left to go, there is still a whole lot to play for, and even the title race might not be over just yet. For Amakhosi, the aim will be finishing in the top eight and trying to go as far as they can in the CAF Champions League. We’ll be here to cover all of that as they unfold.
