Mamelodi Sundowns youngster, Grant Margeman, has admitted there is a lot of pressure that comes with playing for one of the biggest sides in the country.
Without a doubt, the Brazilians are top two biggest sides in the country. The same applies to their transfer policy as they are well known to go only after the best of the best available on the market.
Despite joining with a big reputation from Ajax Cape Town (Cape Town Stars), the midfielder is yet to make his mark at Masandawana so far.
Speaking during South Africa’s u-23 camp in Durban, the 22-year-old admits to a tough start to life at Mamelodi Sundowns, while describing his debut for the club against Golden Arrows as one to forget.
“I think it been a slow start of my career at Sundowns personally, obviously I want to play more games but for me its all about adjusting to new a environment and to keep working hard and hopefully, when I get another chance will capitalize on it.
“Obviously that debut was disappointing you know, as a footballer you want to play most of the games and 90 minutes you know. So for me it’s all about working hard and going back to coaches, check where I can improve as I said I’m still adjusting to a new life.”
After struggling for apparent game-time under Rhulani Mokwena, Margman admits he has genuinely thought about asking for a loan move in a bid to avoid losing his position in the national team.
The midfielder is now hopeful that a positive outing with the Durban camp might perhaps do well for his confidence and help him push for a spot in a star-studded Sundowns team.
“Yeah obviously you know that came in mind but I’m a Mamelodi Sundowns player, I need to fight, work hard to get into the match-day squad and to get to level where it cannot also affect my chances in the national team, as the coach wants players who are regulars,” he added.
“I’m thankful that I’m in this camp and hoping that will help me to gain confidence to take to Sundowns,” he added.
So far this season, Margeman has only made a grand total of two appearances, totaling 61 minutes. However, he would have to remain patient for game-time as he could be given some chances towards the end of the season or if Sundowns manage to defend their title early.
