Thabiso ‘Pepe’ Sesane is enjoying a brilliant start to his Buccaneers career, but that wouldn’t have been possible without the advice of Orlando Pirates captain, Happy Jele.
Jele, who was in much the same boat 15 years ago when he made his Pirates debut, feels an affinity to ‘Pepe’ and revealed he gave the young lad advice to help him grow and become a better player.
In only his second league game of the season and his first start, Sesane put up a star performance, which saw him earn him the Man of the Match award. He was clearly heads and shoulders above the rest of the field as he geared his team to a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United at the weekend. If there was ever a doubt about the abilities of the 20-year-old, this game put paid to it.
As the watching world continue to gush over this young lad, Jele was quick to reveal that his advice to the lad is yielding dividends. The Pirates captain can only see the 20-year-old headed for the very top of his game.
“Eish, you are talking about a special player hey,” Jele told journalists ahead of Pirates’ CAF Confederations Cup match against ES Setíf.
“Pepe is a good player, he’s a good listener. He’s willing to improve each and every game, he listens to the coaches, he listens to the senior players as well. He’s a very good boy and he is growing each and every day.”
“I will say for me, I always tell him that he must keep on working hard and one day he is gonna play for the team and the coach gave him a chance and he did well the previous weekend and it shows in the results if you work hard, the results will come, it might not be today but one day it will come and it shows. The more you listen, the more you grow as a player. So, I’m very happy for him, the way he played he did very well, he got a chance and he made use of it, so now it’s a beginning for him to work harder because it shows that if you work harder, you’ll get a chance to play so it’s a start for him to keep on working hard for the team.”
Sesane already looks like one for the future and only time will tell how quickly he will progress in the Orlando Pirates setup.
