Chippa United coach Gavin Hunt believes his side could have scored ‘seven or eight’ goals despite slumping to a thrashing in his unhappy return to his former ground.
The Chilli Boys were thoroughly beaten by a rampaging Amakhosi side 4-0 at FNB Stadium in the DStv Premiership on Saturday evening.
While Hunt spoke about their dozen of missed chances, he was also disappointed in their all-round defensive work throughout the game.
“We lost 4-0 but if you look at the game and you understand football, I mean how many opportunities did we have tonight. My goodness, it could have been seven or eight for us,” SuperSport after the game.
“Before they scored we should have scored twice. We had so many chances in and around the box.
“The first goal was a real defensive error. It’s a problem for us. We’ve got to try and improve them and get them better. Some of them obviously come from a lower level. And if you’re not up to the level you’re going to get exposed.
“There were a lot of individual errors. The third goal – I mean its right down the side. It’s a simple defensive structure there and it’s disappointing but I mean we had unbelievable chances tonight.
Hunt, who was with Chiefs last season, also went on to explain the rationale behind the three substitutions he made at halftime when his team was 2-0 down.
“We were hurting them. We were effecting it. We got them in the right areas and where we wanted them. We changed, we pushed more to the wider areas and kept them back. But we turned the ball over in simple areas and obviously their front three is worth more than our whole club. You’ve got to look at it like that.
“Today was a poor defensive display but on the other side there were a lot of positives. But you can’t be losing 4-0, you know what I’m saying. You’ve got to have a little more resistance.
“We had the ball right on the halfway line and we played a little five-yard ball and they intercepted and then you go one nil down when you could have been two nil up. Those are the type of things. That comes with players playing and we need to get better.”
