Victory does a lot of things to the confidence and morale of a team. Fans of Kaizer Chiefs cannot get over the emphatic victory the team managed over Chippa United. They have all been gushing at the way the win came.
The Soweto giants eased some of the pains their fans were going through after a turbulent start to the season that saw them amass just six points from six games. The latest victory has seen a club legend wax lyrical about what the teams’ performance meant.
Former Chiefs defender Rudolph Seale thinks the players are beginning to respond positively to what coach Stuart Baxter is trying to impose on the team. According to Rudolph, it was evident in the 4-0 thrashing of Chippa United in the PSL last Saturday.
The team had gone on a winless streak that saw Chiefs fall to two defeats and two draws. The Chippa win, however, brought an end to the rut.
Seale exonerated the coach from the teams’ challenges and advised the team to focus on the players raising their game. Seale believes the team have turned a corner and must now build on it.
Speaking in an interview, Seale said having been together for a few weeks, the gaffer and his wards are beginning to understand each other.
“I think they have turned the corner now, and they’re getting used to each other. After Gavin Hunt’s sacking, I think they should now decide that they can’t always be sacking coaches. They should instead turn their focus on these players.
“It cannot always be the coach. We just have to raise our performance to the expected levels.”
The victory over Chippa saw Chiefs move from 12th to eighth on the log, and he expects things to improve from here. He said when the second round commences, he wants to see Chiefs move up the log to fourth or fifth.
Seale, however, doesn’t expect Kaizer Chiefs to win the league, but that they will show that potential and can win it next season.
