Mamelodi Sundowns is a South African football club based in Mamelodi, Tshwane, South Africa.
Although originally formed in the 1960s in Marabastad, Sundowns became an official football club in 1970 and has since risen to become one of the most popular and successful football clubs in South Africa and has featured players who gave gone on to international success. Downs have, to date, won 10 South African Premier Division (aka PSL) titles – a South African record. The next closest teams are Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs with 4 titles each.

Businessman Zola “Mr Cool” Mahobe buys the club
Sundowns are promoted to the National Professional Soccer League First Division

Sundowns win their first major trophy, the Mainstay Cup (beating Jomo Cosmos 1 – 0)
Under coach Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala, Sundowns develop their distinctive style of football known as “The Shoeshine and Piano”.
