Two teams remain unbeaten this season in the DSTV Premiership. Sundowns and Stellenbosch have maintained an unbeaten run that has seen the two sides respectively secure eight and five victories.
On Saturday, Sundowns got pushed back as they failed to find a goal against Cape Town City. It was the second time the team was dropping points this season.
Despite being top of the table and five points clear of its closest rival with a game in hand, Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi is dissatisfied with the result. The coach, who wants perfection from his team, however, admits it was a good match. He told SuperSport TV that Cape Town City gave a good account of themselves.
In a chat with SuperSport TV after the game, Mngqithi lauded Cape Town City. He admitted that they were a superb team. He advised other sides not to take the Citizens for granted. According to Mngqithi, they could easily have lost the game.
“They had Fagrie [Lakay] looking for possibilities and overloading the ball side, so a point, not satisfied, but I respect the fact that I also got a point and a clean sheet because we were playing against a superb team,” he added.
Mngqithi asked that the two teams deserve credit for the turnovers, which he attributed to the counter-pressing both teams applied.
He further stressed the work ethic of both teams, singling out the midfield for working very hard to ensure they stabilize each other. Mngqithi also pointed out the pace of the game at various times. He said the tempo got a little faster, leading to a lot of mistakes.
“I think we had some moments in the first half on the wing play more, especially on Divine Lunga on the left channel. I think we weren’t decisive enough and clinical enough, and those moments in as much as they were few and far between, but those moments could’ve decided the game.”
