Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango has been advised to get his act together and focus on improving his game after some off-field negative reports have stalled his progress at the Soweto giants this season.
Mhango, who has been a notable absentee from Pirates’ matchday squads, having missed 10 consecutive matches already this season.
Consequently, the 29-year-old has also been dropped from the Malawi national team by coach Meck Mwase for their upcoming two 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon and Mozambique respectively.
Meanwhile, Mhango was recently in the news after he allegedly failed to clear a bill of around R26 000 at a night club in Gauteng.
Former Orlando Pirates striker James Mothibi has now advised the ex-Bidvest Wits player to focus on his game and on doing well for the Buccaneers instead of being in the news for the wrong reasons.
“I have decided to advise this boy (Mhango) through the media because I don’t have his contact number. I was not a brilliant player during my time in professional football, but I was a brilliant player in terms of helping other players around me to achieve as per the standards of Orlando Pirates and the requirements. I was not scoring but I was creating. If it’s true that he has been doing the things that he has allegedly been doing off the field, he must know that he is denting the image of Orlando Pirates and is denting the image of ex-players who worked very hard for the club. If he has to apologise, he has to do so because we as ex-players are not happy with his behaviour,” said Mothibi.
“He must look at Happy Jele as an example of how to respect the club. There are kit managers there and other members of the staff and he should take their advice when they advise him. We took advice from people like that, and we never judged anyone. That’s why we went on to win the league two times and we made the multitudes of Pirates supporters in this country and in Africa happy. My advice to this boy is that he should focus on his game and the coaches should give him another chance to showcase his talent,” added Mothibi, speaking in an interview.
