NFD: Three teams move within touching distance of leaders Richards Bay

The race for top stop in the GladAfrica Championship continues to heat up as three teams moved within two points of league leaders Richards Bay FC. For the latest game-week, matches took place across Tuesday and Wednesday and we have a roundup of the results and notable talking points.

League leaders Richards Bay were condemned to a 2-1 loss on home turf but remain top of the league. However, their lead has been reduced to a mere two points, with the trio of Sekhukhune United, Royal AM and JDR Stars all on par at 36 points.

It was a characteristic game-week as Royal AM were the only team in the current top five to record a win, following their 2-1 victory over Polokwane City.  It was another poor outing for Rise & Shine as they have now suffered their third consecutive loss in the league.

Elsewhere, Cape United continued their steady rise in the league as they recorded a 2-0 victory over Pretoria Callies. In another fixture, Cape Town Spurs could not record a win but kept their unbeaten run intact as they played out to a goalless stalemate against Jomo Cosmos on Wednesday. It was a game particularly low in quality and lacking chances from both teams.

A quick-fire brace from Khethukuthula Ndlovu in the space of 10 minutes secured a 3-2 win for Uthongathi FC in what was a thrilling game against Cape Town All Stars. Biazana Pondo Chiefs could only manage a point on the road, following their 1-1 draw at Steenberg United. It would take an extraordinary effort for Biazana Pondo Chiefs to avoid the drop as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table and eight points from safety.

Richards Bay will be aiming to return to winning ways when they take on Uthonghati FC for their next league outing on Saturday.
