The 2021/22 DStv Premiership season is almost upon us, and many clubs are in preparation mode. Orlando Pirates are very much at the party. After finishing third last season, and 17 points behind league winners Mamelodi Sundowns, they have made a statement of intent to rein them in this season.
The Bucs have announced the signing of four players to beef up their squad ahead of the 2021/22 season. This much they announced on their website recently.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Goodman Mosele, Monnapule Saleng, Bandile Shandu and Kwanda Mngonyama,” the club announced in an official statement.
The focus is to beef up every department to compete well, as evidenced by their purchase of an attacker, a midfielder and two defenders. More players will join the team before the start of the season.
Orlando Pirates concluded the signing of the much-coveted midfielder Mosele, while Evidence Makgopa yet to be announced by the club.
Bucs were also on the front foot for the signature of Mngonyama, who was a free agent after severing ties with Maritzburg United.
Bandile Shandu departed from Team of Choice last week, confirming an imminent move to the Soweto giants. Saleng’s move to the Bucs was a secret hidden in public and was no surprise when announced as a Pirates player.
The club gave details of the contract terms by all the players, indicating that Mosele has penned a four-year deal, while Shandu and Saleng both agreed to three-year deals, respectively. Meanwhile, Mngonyama signed on to a two-year contract to play for the Bucs.
With more players expected, the squad will be bloated, and the club will have to create space for the incoming players. As expected, there will be a few exits at the club in the coming days. The Bucs have confirmed that players who were out on loan will need to prove themselves to get a place in the team.
