Tembo’s plan for looming Mokoena departure

SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has insisted that the imminent departure of star midfielder Teboho Mokoena will not disrupt the team as Matsatsantsa are looking to consolidate on their early good form this season.

CEO Stan Matthews recently revealed that there is a strong possibility that Mokoena will leave SuperSport at the end of the season, though there are no indications of where the player will be plying his trade. It means Tembo needs to make plans for finding a replacement for Mokoena as soon as he departs the PSL club.

“For now, we’ve got to focus on the season. As much as we are thinking about that, at the same time it’s also key that we have ‘Tebza’ focused for us because he is still part of us. We don’t know what’s going to happen at the end of the season, so we don’t want him to be distracted by that,” Tembo told media after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

“As much as we will prepare, he is not the only player who has left SuperSport before and we’ve still had replacements. He’s no different. We will bring in a few youngsters who are already training with the first team. You could see on the bench we had Thalente Mbatha, as well as Selaelo Rasebotja. He is also another midfielder who plays for our Diski Challenge team. So those are the players we are looking at giving game time to, to prepare them for next season. So, it’s not really a concern for us. We just need to make sure that he (Mokoena) focuses on his game because that’s very key.”
