Kaizer Chiefs Stuart Baxter wasn’t quite direct with his response when he asked about his side’s title aspirations after the draw against AmaZulu on Wednesday.
The English coach is hopeful ahead of the Glamour Boys returning to action to face Swallows in the DStv Premiership on Sunday.
“I think its different strokes for different folks. Some coaches may say the league title is what they are looking for,” Baxter told journalists.
“I was told by a wise guy, who taught me how to use a Samurai sword, that I shouldn’t have my eyes on the destination but on the pathway. If you have one eye on your destination, you’ve only got half your strength to use in the here and the now. My preference is to say we want performances, we want a win and then move on. I don’t look too far into the future.”
“I have my own little calculations, but at this moment in time I don’t think I would want to talk about winning the league after a performance like that, that is not realistic,” he added.
“You have to improve that performance before you start saying we have a chance to win the league. We threw away the chance against AmaZulu to put us back into the race seriously; hopefully we won’t do that again if the chance arises.”
