GladAfrica Championship side Cape Town Spurs have decided to part ways with their head coach Ian Taylor on Monday.
Spurs suffered a crushing 2-0 loss to Cape Umoya United on Sunday afternoon, leaving the side in 15th position with 26 points after 24 matches and staring at relegation to the lower tier. Following yet another loss in the GladAfrica Championship, the Urban Warriors can only boast of three total wins across their last 10 league games.
After a streak of mixed results, they decided to effect a change by parting ways with the 44-year-old tactician, who replaced Vladislav Heric in February.
“Ian was integral in instilling a positive mindset at Ikamva and everyone at Spurs would like to thank him for his contribution to the club,” said Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou.
“Unfortunately the desired results have not been forthcoming on the field of play in recent weeks.”
Taylor spent just 83 days at the helm of affairs after replacing the Serbian but failed to improve the side which then resulted in his sack.
It comes just less than a day after Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi spoke on the impatience of club owners in South Africa. He was quoted to have said: “The truth is, we need to pray to God to help us in dealing with things that we can’t control, to ask God to grant you that serenity to deal with things and those you cannot deal with,” Mngqithi said, addressing media.
“Even the Bible tells us to forgive those who have harmed us, because at times they don’t know what they are doing, Many decisions that are taken by club bosses, more especially in firing of coaches, are usually counterproductive to their clubs.”
Cape Town Spurs are not expected to make an appointment before the end of the season and will likely use an in-house name to act as an interim manager till the campaign ends. For their next outing, they will take on 11th-placed Polokwane as they hope to make a late resurgence and avoid the drop come the end of the season.
