Orlando Pirates have joined the battle for the signature of Baroka FC hot prospect Goodman Mosele.
Reports suggest that the Pirates have already contacted gaffer Khurishi Mphahele – with whom they are on very good terms – to discuss the availability of the 21-year-old central midfielder.
However, Pirates are not alone and will have to battle it out with Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs who have also been linked with the 19/20 Young Player of the Season.
Earlier in the week, Mosele brushed aside Chiefs rumours but admitted that the interest is flattering.
“Aah about the Kaizer Cheifs neh,” Mosele said commented earlier, “I only see it on social media, nobody or my chairman has said anything about it
“So I am not really entertaining it. Rather, it gives me [motivation] to work more than before.”
Talks of Mosele departure from the Bakgaga have intensified since the end of the last season, but nothing has materialised so far.
It is understood that Baroka management will fight to keep their young talent at the Old Peter Mokaba but has so far been unsuccessful in extending his contract, which expires in June 2021.
Rumours linking Mosele with a move to Europe have also emerged, but it remains to be seen whether they are true, as it is a standard practice for football agents to involve third-parties in order to gain advantage in negotiations with existing suitors.
One thing that becomes more certain with each passing week is that Mosele edges closer to a move away from Baroka at the end of the season. Ultimately, it will come down to him deciding where he wants to continue his development.
And according to former Bucs midfielder Lebogang Mothibantwa, his destination should be the Amakhosi, surprisingly.
“The big teams like to go for the shining stars and sometimes these players are just young boys who are still trying to find their feet in the big league.” Mothibantwa explained.
“I’d rather advise Mosele to go to Kaizer Chiefs.
“Look at the Pirates, they are a very strong team and Chiefs on the other side are on a rebuilding phase. I’d advise him to go where he knows that he’s going to play.”
Mosele is currently with the U-23 Bafana Bafana squad, preparing for the Olympic Games later in the year.
He has made 18 appearances for Baroka this season.
