Swallows FC head coach Brandon Truter has praised his boys for their resilience and effort after their victory over Orlando Pirates.
The Dube Birds progressed to the semi-finals of the MTN 8 after defeating the defending champions 2-1 at Orlando Stadium, with a brace from Ruzaigh Gamildien sending them through on the night.
Truter hailed his side for the shift they put in away from home and spoke about the importance of the result.
“For us it was about the match. It was about gauging. It’s the first time in a while that Swallows has been here.
“Pirates are the holders. I think from the top teams it’s only us and Sundowns that haven’t won this competition.
“This result means a lot to us. But also, it impacts on the load we had today. It was a massive shift from [Lehlogonolo] Motlau, Cheeseboy (Mokoena) as well. That effects because now we have to look to the next match and how to get them fit because the recovery and regeneration now becomes so important.
“Well done to the guys. It was a big shift and to come here to Orlando and actually come away with the result.
“Some of the aspects in the team, the DNA, some things are non-negotiable. The boys showed their resilience in the second half when Pirates came at us. We didn’t give much away so that shows as well the character.
“I didn’t see the penalty. There was a lot of traffic in front of us. Even the offside goal I will give it to them.
“Ja, we don’t like conceding goals. Even in training. I think it was a soft penalty. The ball changed direction. We’ll have a look it. But the defence and the goalkeeper thrive on their clean sheets.”
