Hunt Clears The Air

Hunt – Man of The Match panel finally got it right

Kaizer Chiefs boss Gavin Hunt was finally in agreement with the Man of the Match Panel after his side claimed a ‘huge’ win over Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday afternoon.

Amakhosi got back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership after coming from behind to beat Sundowns 2-1, and handing the league leaders their first defeat of the season.

In previous games this season, Hunt has often voiced his disagreement with the Man of the Match panel. However, he felt they got it right this time around with Njabulo Blom after the young midfielder put in a fine showing against Sundowns.

Speaking after the game, Hunt said: “Finally, you guys got it right. It’s because William Shogwe wasn’t here. So, he got it right. Blom was fantastic”

“Another step forward. Another game Wednesday. Look at the squad tomorrow, prepare Monday and Tuesday and play Wednesday.”

Speaking further on the win, Hunt feels his side fully deserved the three points contrary to the opinion of others.

“Very disappointed to go 1-0 down” Hunt added.

“I thought we had good opportunities in the first-half. And then we were on the back foot but we kept going. I thought on the evidence of the game we had a lot of opportunities which we didn’t take which has been the story of our season.

“Good determination. Good effort. We deserved something for a change.

The quality in their squad – certainly in the front of the team – is very good so we had to play a certain way which we did. When we turned it over, we had three versus three a lot of the time. You’ve just got to make the final pass.”

Chiefs will now be looking to build on that win as they take on struggling Chippa United on Wednesday.

For Sundowns, a defeat doesn’t mean the end of their title charge as they still boast two games in hand. However, a loss now means they have missed out on a big chance to finish the season unbeaten. For their next outing, they’ll be taking on third-placed Golden Arrows who are only five points behind them. If they drop points to their close rivals and Amazulu win their next game, we could be looking at the prospect of a tense finish to the PSL campaign.
